JT (Jatinder Saund) was born and raised in Brampton, Canada. Growing up in an environment that cultivated both his Punjabi cultural roots as well as fostered his western upbringing, Jatinder was introduced to a wide spectrum of musical genres from a young age.
JT had always loved the sound of Indian classical and Traditional Punjabi Folk music that surrounded his home life but, also grew an appreciation for the music that surrounded his daily life from R’N’B, Dancehall, Hip- Hop to Electronica. This eclectic array of rhythms fostered a unique musical lens on the Traditional and Modern musical arenas, that JT could make his own. What can only be described as the “Saund Sound Signature,” JT’s fusion of modern rhythms with traditional Punjabi folk music production is an exciting sound current that is abound to hit the world stage as a Tsunami.
JT’s journey into making and producing music began with his love and passion for playing percussion. From the age of 8 years until today, he has immersed himself whole-heartedly into the intricate playing elements of the tabla, dholak and dhol. His well known raw talent and tenacity for playing as a traditional drummer sought him to refine his art through professional training and discipline, elements of which he extended to being a self-taught Tumbi and Harmonium player.
Far from being the average artist, this former leader of The Dhol Foundation (Canada) has performed at some of the most prestigious venues across the world. These have included the Sony TV Asia Achievement Awards in New York City, drumming with international recording artist Nelly Furtado alongside award winning pop group Josh at the ACC and headlining the Percpan Music Festival in Rio de Janiero Brazil, to name but a few.
JT’s most recent creation has been the much publicized and sought after JT & MC JD Roadshow. Consisting of a collaborative group of artists from different backgrounds, the musical fusion produced is rooted in but a single vision, to make the world dance to a unique rhythm. JT is the brainchild behind the music for these upcoming projects.
JT’s love for the dhol has extended to him producing music for various grass-root artists for many years. He has mastered the art of production through precise and meticulous devotion; tweaked every kick, snare, bass line and sound to make his music unique.
